Junior Cricket @ BCC

Junior cricket is at the heart of Blackburn Cricket Club. Our junior program provides a fun, welcoming and supportive environment where players of all ages and abilities can develop their skills, build lasting friendships and enjoy the game of cricket.

Our philosophy  is simple: every child deserves the opportunity to participate, improve and become the best cricketer - and person - they can be. While we celebrate success on the field, we place just as much importance on teamwork, sportsmanship, confidence and creating a lifelong love of the game.

A Complete Junior Pathway

Our junior pathway caters for children from their very first experience with cricket through to representative and senior cricket.

Woolworths Cricket Blast is the perfect introduction for our youngest players. Held on Wednesday evenings at Morton Park and supported by Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria, Cricket Blast teaches the fundamental skills of batting, bowling and fielding through fun, engaging activities and modified games. Our experienced coaches help build confidence while ensuring every child enjoys their first cricket experience.

From Cricket Blast, players progress through Cricket Australia's junior pathway into Super 7s and Fast 9s. These formats introduce children to larger grounds and team cricket, while ensuring everyone has equal opportunities to bat, bowl and keep wicket. The focus remains firmly on participation, skill development and enjoying the game.

Players then graduate into our Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 teams, where they continue to develop both their cricket skills and their understanding of the game. We support every player as they transition into graded competition by promoting inclusive values, celebrating improvement and fostering strong friendships. Wherever possible, we keep friendship groups together in the younger age groups while encouraging a positive and competitive team environment.

Committed to Player Development

Providing high-quality coaching is a key part of our junior program. Blackburn Cricket Club is committed to giving our players opportunities to learn from experienced coaches and elite cricket mentors.

In recent seasons, our juniors have worked with former Sri Lankan Test great Rangana Herath, one of the world's leading spin bowlers, whose coaching provided invaluable experience for our developing players.

This season, we are excited to welcome Ethan Jekot from Next Phase Cricket to lead our Under 14 Junior Development Program. Ethan brings representative coaching experience and a passion for developing young cricketers through technical coaching, game awareness and mindset training.

More Than Cricket

At Blackburn Cricket Club, we believe cricket is about much more than runs and wickets.

Whether it's keeping friends together in junior teams, celebrating individual improvement or introducing initiatives such as our popular Fathers & Sons T20 team, we're committed to creating memorable experiences that bring families together and strengthen our club community.
